Modmath & The New Subscription Model

Why Modmath Switched to a Subscription Model

Since Modmath first launched on iPad in 2016, our mission has been to empower students with neurodivergent and physical challenges to write and solve math problems independently. We’ve been incredibly grateful for the support from the community over the years. Modmath has grown through word of mouth, reaching thousands of students and families around the world who rely on it as a vital assistive tool.

We’re thrilled to introduce the new version of Modmath, completely rewritten from the ground up. This new release brings exciting new features and is now available not just for iPad but also for Chromebook and Android tablets. Along with these updates, we’ve made the decision to move to a subscription-based model, and we’d like to explain why this change was necessary to continue serving our users effectively.

Why the Change?

When Modmath first launched, all features could be purchased for $4.99 through either an in-app purchase, or through the purchase of Modmath Pro, This was a one-time, lifetime license. At the time, this model helped us introduce Modmath to the world and ensure accessibility for many families. However, as the app grew in popularity, it became clear that sustaining and improving the app required more than a one-time fee could support. Here are some of the key reasons why we’ve moved to a subscription model:

Sustained Development - Building an app like Modmath is not a one-and-done effort. Technology evolves, operating systems change, and users’ needs grow over time. To ensure Modmath stays compatible with the latest devices and continues to improve, we need a steady stream of income to fund ongoing development. A subscription model allows us to invest in:

  • Regular updates and bug fixes

  • Innovative new features

  • Maintaining compatibility across platforms

Enhanced Features - The new version of Modmath is packed with enhancements that go beyond the original offering. From a redesigned interface to advanced tools for solving equations, we’ve worked hard to make Modmath more powerful and versatile. These improvements require significant time, effort, and expertise to design and implement. Subscriptions provide the financial support needed to bring these ideas to life.

Customer Support - Offering excellent customer support is critical to our mission. A subscription model enables us to maintain a dedicated team to help users troubleshoot issues, learn how to use new features, and get the most out of the app.

Global Accessibility - With the move to multiple platforms, including Chromebook and Android tablets, we’re now able to reach more students worldwide. This expansion requires resources for development, testing, and support across a range of devices and operating systems.

What Does This Mean for You?

We understand that changes in pricing models can feel daunting, but we’re committed to keeping Modmath as accessible as possible. To that end, you can still use the new version of Modmath for free, albeit with limited access to advanced symbols on the keypad. Our subscription pricing, currently set at $1.99 monthly or $14.99 annually, reflects the value of the improvements we’ve made and the ongoing investment we’ll make to serve you better. Subscribing ensures you’ll always have access to the latest features, updates, and support. And helps us share Modmath with a broader audience around the world. For our existing users, you can continue to use the original version of Modmath indefinitely. However, we encourage you to explore the new version and experience the many enhancements we’ve made.

Looking Ahead

Our mission remains unchanged: to provide assistive technology to differently-abled students all around the world so that everyone can write and solve math problems. Moving to a subscription model ensures that we can continue innovating and expanding Modmath for years to come. We’re excited about this new chapter and look forward to supporting our growing community of users.

Thank you for your continued trust and support. Together, we’re helping every student, regardless of their challenges, write and solve math equations.
